DIALOGUE ON AN OUT-OF-ORDER PAYPHONE
no, you don’t understand
i’m starting to see things.
globes of light. strobing.
just listen
i’m seeing more
and the more i think,
things are moving.
today, in a bleach lit house
in the center of a room
—who knows whose house it was
that doesn’t matter—
just listen
i saw a snake bundled up, ready to strike.
my hands were needles then numb.
sweat echoed throughout the house.
the snake quickly disappeared into the floor.
i couldn’t predict where it would appear
next, thought i’d faint, so i ran outside.
my head is losing weight
just talking about it.
hello?
hello?
are you there?
are you listening?
AIM CARDEZ’S 600 VOLT OBSESSION
In the electric underground, Aim Cardez peeks over a platform’s ledge. As he sinks into thought
she slinks up next to, him hissing in his ear.
yes jump do it right onto that third rail
just have a taste of the body going limp
A breeze chills his shoulder and neck.
i’m looking at the tracks can’t stop looking
at this third rail the tracks are vibrating
maybe i should take a bite
The peripheral voice perches on Aim’s shoulder. He shudders.
you better jump aim right for lightning
if you don’t someone will push you
some lunatic looking for a laugh
someone who just got the ax
someone will push you
you know they will
Aim has never contemplated suicide but something about voltage blasting through his veins has
him curious.
in one running leap i could no i can’t
i don’t want to but what would it be like
it would be like heaven
Aim feels people walk behind him, some talking to themselves, most waiting, but they keep
walking behind him. He retreats from the ledge, pressing his back against the walltiles when,
from this black cave, a goldrush on the tracks like the way she comes, and the air rumbles.
AIM CARDEZ DREAMS A SEQUENCING GRIPLOSS
A short bridge encased in glass above the onslaught of a highway. Aim reluctantly enters. all
this glass, all this probability. He begins crossing, looks down at the ambushing cars on mute.
The bridge is a trustworthy sterile shine. A calm lulls him like sunset ointment. His pulse
doesn’t scatter. Breath intact. Still, something isn’t right. the middle of the bridge is the most
dangerous. As Aim nears its epicenter, the ground starts to quake. The binding glass clatters
but doesn’t crack or break. i’m not safe. Quickening strides, he suspects the soles of his shoes
won’t keep. The bridge roils, growling turbulence. Severs behind him. Branches and stems and
veins run under him. Jagged pangs slash the piƱata in his chest. Discharge of bees. Apoplectic
feet. Cleft brained in snake fissures, Aim is consumed by the buckle that swallows him whole.

What are your ponders?
Who sews your ghosts?
What holds your paths?
What are your ghosts?
What holds your ponders?
Who sews your paths?
What moves you?
This is your head, your brain and heart.
These are your eyes.
They’re yours and no one else’s.
Keep that in mind.

ANTERIOR INSULA
Reptilian endowed artifact deep down in the brain’s sepulchers. People were meant to sense
danger. Cold blooded anticipation. Aim’s is hyperactive. Dismay tightens and locks like
broken gills. Cardiac threats scale around his skull. Braided firmly in the cradle made of
imminent disaster, a collapse around every bend, an attack in one form or another, a shark with
feet roaming land, fainting sky, bridge malfunction, paralyzed elevator, relapsed scabs, allergic
reaction, ambulance traffic jammed, first case scenario, outbreak of miscalculations, doctors
with their mouths agape, one wrong after another, no breath no rest no breath, Aim, your
capsized cerebellum drowning in a tsunamic surge of bloodflow upon this insula.
