Upon Leaving
i am afraid to take my eyes off you,
for i know the moment i do,
you will disappear from me
and take with you my softness.
the light of my essence will follow you,
swallowing me Jonah whole,
and leaving me in pitch dark blindness.
revealing only in shadows
the remaining flesh of your absence.
i will stay clinched
inside volute madness,
until we meet again
at the realm of haunted dreams;
and i will bind you
iris blue
as you drift to sleep
in the roundness of my love,
guarding your every breath,
my dear,
i'll tend your sheep
not yet counted
and whisper lightly
in the silent sound of listless ear,
the stifling fears i place upon your leaving.
