Flailing Discourse

Music is free a
flailing discourse on
modernity time is free
a careening discourse on
government brought to you
by the jargon of eightymillionsold
albums and condensed to a pinprick
of volume and sound
is free from speakers filing
lawsuits buying pantsuits
fuliflling the american dream is free
dom flag flying perturbed nation
rolling eyes the irony scene is dead

This is not profane

A bullet for my
new nation tis of the
sweet land of candy canes
and lollipops direct your
inquiries to Santa at the
north polaroid pictures of
dancing girls replaced by
digital images of naughty bits
condensed into a bullet
for my valentine its free
though i'll still pay for her food
because
chivalry

is not profane.

Michael Ardizzone is a software engineer by trade, but a writer by dint of will. He has had several poems published in the literary magazines of the high school and college he attended, but hasn't bothered putting poems into other publications until recently. He writes about game design on a blog called That's a Terrible Idea. He also is an assistant editor for Muscle & Blood, a literary journal.
